A Mother’s Advice

엄마의 충고

Jiun, a Shingon master, was a well-known Sanskrit scholar of the Tokugawa era. 

Jiun, Shingon 선사는 Tokugawa시대에 산스크리트 학자로 유명했다.

When he was young he used to deliver lectures to his brother students. 

그가 어렸을때 그의 형제 학생들에게 강의를 하곤 했었다.

His mother heard about this and wrote him a letter:

그의 어머니가 이 말을 듣고는 편지를 썼다.

“Son, I do not think you became a devotee of the Buddha because you desire to turn into a walking dictionary for 

others. 

 "아들아, 나는 네가 다른사람들에게 걸어다니는 사전이 되기를 원했기 때문에 부처님께 헌신하는 자가 되리라 생각하지 

않는다.

There is no end to information and commentation, glory and honour. 

정보와 해설, 영광과 명예에는 끝이 없다.

I wish you would stop this lecture business. 

나는 니가 이 강의를 그만두기를 바란다.

Shut yourself up in a little temple in a remote part of the mountain. 

산속에 떨어진 암자에 들어가 침묵을 하거라.

Devote your time to meditation and in this way attain true realization.”

명상에 전념하여 진정한 깨달음을 얻어라."
