Black-Nosed Buddha

A nun who was searching for enlightenment made a statue of Buddha and covered it with gold leaf. 

깨달음을 구하는 한 여승이 부처의 상을 만들어 금잎으로 덮었다.

Wherever she ent she carried this golden Buddha with her.

어디를 들어가든 그녀는 그 금부처를 함께 지니고 다녔다.

Years passed and, still carrying her Buddha, the nun came to live in a small temple in a country where there 

were many Buddhas, each one with its own particular shrine.

세월이 흘러 여전히 금부처를 지니고 있었던 그 여승은 각 감실이 있는 많은 부처상이 있는 한 시골의 작은 절에 살게되

었다.

The nun wished to burn incense before her golden Buddha. 

그녀는 그녀의 금부처상앞에서 향을 태우기를 원했다.

Not liking the idea of the perfume straying to others, she devised a funnel through which the smoke would ascend 

only to her statue. 

다른 이들에게 향이 퍼지는 것이 싫어서 그녀는 그 연기가 오직 그녀의 상에만 향하도록 하는 굴뚝을 만들었다.

This blackened the nose of the golden Buddha, making it especially ugly.

이것이 그 금부처의 코를 검게 만들었고 그 금부처를 특히나 못생기게 만들었다.

shrine : 감실

incense : 향

stray : 길을잃다

funnel : 굴뚝
