고요한 마음의고향

Inviting the Robe

Wealthy patrons invited Ikkyu to a banquet. 

부유한 성인이 Ikkyu를 연회에 초대했다.

Ikkyu arrived dressed in his beggar’s robes. 

Ikkyu는 그의 거지 차림으로 도착했다.

The host, not recognizing hin, chased him away. 

주인은 그를 알아보지 못하고 그를 쫓아버렸다.

Ikkyu went home, changed into his ceremonial robe of purple brocade, and returned. 

Ikkyu는 집에 와서 자주색 비단으로 된 예식복으로 바꿔입고 다시 돌아왔다.

With great respect, he was received into the banquet room. 

환대를 받으며 그는 연회장으로 안내되었다.

There, he put his robe on the cushion, saying, 

거기서, 그는 그의 옷을 소파위에 벗어며 말했다.

“I expect you invited the robe since you showed me away a little while ago,” and left.

 "나는 당신이 내 옷을 초대한거 같구려 왜냐하면 당신이 좀전에 나를 쫓아냈으니깐요." 하고는 떠나버렸다.

Whatever a Tathagata utters, speaks and proclaims between the day of his enlightenment and the day he dies, all that is factual, not otherwise, and that is why he is called "Tathagata".

여래가 깨달음의 날과 열반날에 무엇을 말하든, 그것은 모두가 사실이며, 다르지 않으며 그래서 그를 "여래"라고 부른다.

These five trades ought not to be practised by a layman. 

이러한 다섯가지 거래는 재가신도에 의해서는 행해져서는 안된다.

What five? 

무슨 다섯가지인가?

Trade in weapons, trade in human beings, trade in flesh, trade in alcohol and trade in poisons.

무기거래, 인신매매, 고기거래, 술거래 그리고 독약거래이다.

Cultivate a friend whose ways are seven. 

7가지 길이 있는 사람을 친구로 사귀어라.

What seven? 

무엇이 7가지인가?

He gives what is hard to give, does what is hard to do, bears what is hard to bear, he confesses his own secrets 

and keeps your secrets, in times of trouble he does not forsake you, and he does not forsake you when you are 

down.

그는 주기 어려운 것을 주고, 하기 어려운 것을 하고, 참기 어려운 것을 참고, 그의 비밀을 고백하고, 당신의 비밀을 지

켜주며 어려울때에 당신을 저버리지 않고 당신이 다운되어 있을때 당신을 저버리지 않는다.

Whatever has had to be done by a teacher out of compassion, for the welfare of his disciples, I have done for 

you. 

제자의 행복을 우해 자비의 마음으로부터 나온 스승의 행동은 무엇이든 나는 너를 위해 행하였다.

Here are the roots of the trees, here are the empty places. 

여기 나무의 뿌리가 있다, 여기 텅빈공간이 있다.

Meditate, do not be slothful, do not be remorseful later. These are my instructions to you.

명상하라, 게으르지마라,나중에 후회하지 마라. 이것이 나의 가르침이다.

I know not of any other single thing so unworkable as the undeveloped mind. 

나는 개발되지 않은 마음보다 더 실행불가능한 것은 없다는 것을 안다.

Indeed, the undeveloped mind is an unworkable thing. 

실제로, 개발되지 않은 마음은 실행불가능한 것이다.

I know not of any other single thing so workable as the developed mind. 

나는 개발된 마음이 다른 어떤것보다 실행가능하다는 것을 안다.

Indeed, the developed mind is a workable thing.

실제로, 개발된 마음은 실행가능한 것이다.

Just as the dawn is the forerunner, the vanguard of the rising sun, so too, possession of virtue is the 

forerunner, the vanguard of the rising of the Noble Eightfold Path.

새벽이 떠오르는 태양의 전조이듯이, 미덕의 소유는 성스러운 팔정도의 떠오름의 전조이다.

The Lord asked: "Which is greater? The little sand on my fingernail, or the great earth?"

부처니께서 물었다. 

"내 손톱위의 모래와 지구중에 어느것이 더 크냐?"

"Lord, greater by far is the great earth. 

"부처님, 지구가 훨씬 더 큽니다.

Tiny is the sand on your fingernail. 

부처님 손톱위의 모래는 작습니다.

The two cannot be compared."

둘은 비교될수 없습니다."

"So too, beings who are reborn as humans are few in number. 

마찬가지로, 인간으로 다시 태어난 존재는 매우 적다.

Far greater are those who are reborn in non-human realms. 

비인간의 왕국에 태어나는 존재는 더 많다.

Therefore, you should train yourself, thinking: "We will live earnestly."

그러므로 너 자신을 훈련하고 생각하라. "우리는 열심히 살아야 겠다."

I am subject to ageing,

나는 늙음에 종속되어있다.

I am not exempt from ageing.

나는 늙음에서 예외가 아니다.

I am subjerct to illness,

나는 병듦에 종속되어 있다.

I am not exempt from illness.

나는 병에서 예외가 아니다.

I am subject to death,

나는 죽음에 구속되어 있다.

I am not exempt from death.

나는 죽음에서 예외가 아니다.

There will be change and separation from all that I hold dear and near to me.

내가 사랑하고 가까이 가지고 있는 모든 것으로부터 변화와 분리가 있을 것이다.

I am the owner of my actions (karma),

나는 내 행동(업)의 주인이고,

Heir to my actions, I am born of my actions, I am related to my actions and I have my actions as refuge.

내 업의 상속자이고, 업으로 인해 태어나고 업과 관계가 있으며 업을 도피처로 가지고 있다.

Whatever I do, good or evil, of that I will be the heir.

선한일을 하든, 나쁜 일을 하든 나는 그것의 상속자가 될것이다.

One remembers and turns over in the mind thoughts about things based on desire in the past, present and future.

사람은 과거,현재 그리고 미래의 욕망에 근거한 일들에 대한 생각으로 마음에서 기억하고 숙고한다.

As one does so, desire is generated, and being desirous one is fettered by those things. 

사람이 그렇게 함으로써, 욕망이 생기고 욕심많은 사람이 됨으로써 그러한 것들에게 속박당한다.

And a mind full of lust is what I call a fetter.

육욕이 가득한 마음을 나는 속박이라고 부른다.
